Puniu or kilu
 
This small, light-weight Hawaiian drum is called a puniu or kilu. It can be made from coconut shell or wood. When made from wood it is called a lapa iki. It is used to accompany the larger Hawaiian pahu to provide the higher sound that signals the hula dancers to change steps. It makes an ideal small gift drum for a young child.
