Handmade DrumsHawaiian Pahu (drum)
This large Hawaiian pahu (drum) is made from the heart of an
80-year old coconut tree from the grove at the historic Coco
Palms Hotel, on Kauai where Elvis filmed "Blue Hawaii". This
pahu is 44 inches tall with a 14-inch diameter head made from
steer skin. It is played in the standing position, using the
palms or fingers of the bare hand. This pahu's public debut
was at the Malae Heiau in Wailua, Kauai when it was played to
welcome the Aloha Week Royal Court during the 2001 Aloha Week
Festival. This pahu has a very deep, rich tone. ch tone.
